Mountbatten Report

The Mountbatten Report, issued in 1947, was a recommendation by Lord Louis Mountbatten, the last British Viceroy of India, on how to divide British India into two independent countries: India and Pakistan. It suggested a partition along religious lines, with Muslim-majority areas forming Pakistan and Hindu-majority areas remaining with India. The report aimed to facilitate a peaceful transition, but its implementation led to significant upheaval, violence, and mass migrations as millions moved to align with their new nations. The Mountbatten Report played a crucial role in shaping the final boundaries and independence process for India and Pakistan.
