Mountbatten (Lord Louis Mountbatten)

Lord Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979) was a British naval officer and statesman, best known for his role in the final years of British rule in India. As the last Viceroy of India from 1947, he oversaw the country's transition to independence and the partition into India and Pakistan, a process marked by significant turmoil. A member of the royal family, he was also the uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Later, he served as the last Governor-General of India. Tragically, Mountbatten was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) in 1979 during a bombing in Ireland.
