Montgolfier's first flight
Montgolfier's first flight, on November 21, 1783, was the debut of a hot air balloon impressive enough to carry a human. Made of lightweight fabric filled with heated air from a fire beneath it, the balloon rose smoothly into the sky over Paris, reaching about 1,500 meters for a journey of around 8 minutes. Piloted by Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent d'Arlandes, it demonstrated how heated air could create enough lift for controlled flight, marking the earliest successful attempt at human aerial navigation and paving the way for future developments in air travel.
