Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK)
The Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) is an Iranian political organization originally founded in the 1960s, advocating for the overthrow of the Iranian government and promoting a form of socialist-Islamic ideology. It combined revolutionary activism with guerrilla tactics and was involved in Iran’s political upheavals. After facing suppression in Iran, MEK relocated to Iraq, where it operated as a military organization aligned with Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War. Today, it presents itself as a pro-democracy group opposed to the Iranian regime, and has been designated a terrorist organization by some countries, though others view it as a valid opposition group.
