Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS)
A Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS) is a diagnostic test that helps evaluate swallowing difficulties. During the procedure, a person swallows a small amount of a liquid mixed with barium, a harmless contrast substance that shows up on X-rays. A special camera takes images of the swallowing process, allowing healthcare providers to see how well the food and liquid go from the mouth through the throat and into the esophagus. This study helps identify any issues with swallowing and guides treatment options for conditions like dysphagia.
