Moamoria Rebellion
The Moamoria Rebellion (1769–1805) was an uprising in Assam against the Ahom Kingdom's rulers, driven by dissatisfaction among the Moamoria community, a religious group associated with the Moamoria sect of Vaishnavism. They sought political and social reforms, opposing the dominance of the aristocracy and oppressive policies. The rebellion weakened the Ahom monarchy, leading to internal conflicts and eventually contributing to the decline of the kingdom. It highlighted the tensions between different social groups and religion, and its suppression marked a significant phase in Assam’s historical and political development.
