Mita System
The Mita System was a labor system used by the Inca Empire in which communities were required to provide workers for public projects or state-controlled labor needs, such as agriculture, construction, or military service. Instead of paying wages, villagers contributed a set amount of labor over a certain period. This system allowed the Incas to mobilize large workforces efficiently for state interests. While it facilitated impressive infrastructure development, it also placed a significant burden on local populations and was sometimes exploited, especially when modified by later colonial rulers.
