Mismatched Negativity
Mismatch Negativity (MMN) is an automatic brain response that occurs when the brain detects an unexpected change in a pattern of sounds or stimuli. For example, if you’re listening to a series of similar sounds and a different one suddenly appears, your brain recognizes this anomaly without conscious effort. MMN is often measured with EEG to study auditory processing and is helpful in understanding conditions like schizophrenia or sensory processing issues. It reflects the brain's ability to monitor environmental changes and adapt accordingly, functioning as an early indicator of how well the brain detects and processes differences in sensory input.
