Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835–1908) was an Indian religious leader who founded the Ahmadiyya movement within Islam. He claimed to be the promised Messiah and Mahdi, believing he was chosen by God to revive and reform Islam. Ahmad emphasized peace, tolerance, and the need for a rational understanding of faith. His teachings, expressed in various books, encouraged dialogue among different religions and stressed the importance of live moral conduct. The Ahmadiyya community, which follows his teachings, believes that he fulfilled prophecies about the coming of a reformer in Islam.
