He played a significant role in advocating for progressive policies during Afghanistan’s political upheavals in the 1970s. Khyber was a founding figure of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA), which aimed to modernize the country through socialist ideas. His efforts focused on improving education, land reforms, and workers' rights. Tragically, he was assassinated in 1978, an event that contributed to the country's subsequent political instability and Communist-led government changes.
