Ministry of Defence (USSR)
The Ministry of Defence of the USSR was the government body responsible for managing the Soviet Union’s military forces, including the army, navy, and strategic missile systems. Established to oversee national defense, it coordinated military policy, procurement, and training, ensuring readiness during the Cold War. It also handled military research and development. As a central institution, it played a key role in shaping Soviet defense strategies, maintaining nuclear and conventional forces, and supporting the country's security objectives until the USSR dissolved in 1991.
