Millard Fillmore
Millard Fillmore was the 13th President of the United States, serving from 1850 to 1853. He became president after Zachary Taylor died in office. Fillmore was known for supporting the Compromise of 1850, a set of laws aimed at resolving tensions between free and slave states, which included the controversial Fugitive Slave Act. Prior to his presidency, he was Vice President and a U.S. Congressman. His time in office was marked by attempting to balance regional interests, but he faced criticism for his stance on slavery and the sectional conflicts that eventually led to the Civil War.
