Mihintale
Mihintale is a sacred mountain and archaeological site in Sri Lanka, considered the birthplace of Buddhism on the island. It’s believed that the first teachings of Buddhism were introduced there around the 3rd century BCE by Mahinda, the son of Emperor Ashoka of India. The site features ancient stupas, caves, and statues, set amid lush scenery. Visitors often climb the mountain to see these relics and enjoy panoramic views. Mihintale’s historical significance lies in its role as a spiritual and cultural landmark that helped establish Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
