Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla

Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla was a Mexican priest and revolutionary leader born in 1753, known as the "Father of Mexican Independence." He energized the Mexican people by calling for an end to Spanish rule, emphasizing social equality and justice. On September 16, 1810, he issued the "Grito de Dolores," a call to arms that sparked Mexico’s fight for independence. Although he was captured and executed in 1811, his efforts laid the foundation for Mexico’s eventual independence in 1821. Hidalgo is celebrated as a national hero and a symbol of Mexican patriotism.
