Migraine Classification Criteria

Migraine classification criteria help doctors identify different types of migraines based on specific features. For a primary migraine diagnosis, key signs include recurrent headaches lasting 4-72 hours, often with throbbing pain on one side of the head. They may be associated with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light or sound. Some migraines occur with visual or sensory disturbances called aura, which usually happen before the headache. The criteria differentiate between migraine types, such as migraine with aura and migraine without aura, helping tailor treatment and understand the condition better.
