Meteora Monasteries

The Meteora Monasteries are a cluster of Eastern Orthodox monasteries located in central Greece, perched atop towering rock formations. Built between the 14th and 17th centuries, these monasteries were established by monks seeking solitude and spiritual reflection. The name "Meteora" means "suspended in air," reflecting their dramatic location, which offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Today, six of the original twenty-four monasteries remain active and are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors for both their historical significance and breathtaking natural beauty. They serve as a testament to religious devotion and architectural ingenuity.
