Mesopotamian Cosmology
Mesopotamian cosmology is the ancient understanding of the universe held by the people of Mesopotamia, notably the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, and Assyrians. They envisioned a flat Earth surrounded by a vast sea, with a dome-like sky above. The world was divided into different realms: the heavens, earth, and the underworld, inhabited by various gods and spirits who influenced the natural world and human affairs. Creation myths explained the origin of the cosmos, often portraying conflicts among deities that formed the world. This cosmological framework deeply influenced their religion, culture, and daily life.
