MERS
MERS, or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, is a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus called MERS-CoV. It was first identified in 2012 in Saudi Arabia. MERS can cause symptoms like fever, cough, and shortness of breath, and in severe cases, it can lead to pneumonia and organ failure. The virus is thought to spread mainly from camels to humans and sometimes between people, especially in healthcare settings. While most cases have occurred in the Middle East, occasional outbreaks have happened elsewhere. There’s no specific treatment, so supportive care and prevention are important.
