meningococcal disease
Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial infection caused by Neisseria meningitidis that can lead to meningitis (inflammation of the brain and spinal cord coverings) and blood infections (septicemia). It spreads through respiratory droplets from close contact with an infected person. Symptoms include sudden fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, and rash. The disease can progress rapidly and become life-threatening if not treated promptly with antibiotics. Vaccines are available to protect against common strains, and early medical attention is critical for those exposed or showing symptoms. Prevention and awareness are key to controlling outbreaks.
