Membership function
A membership function is a concept from fuzzy logic that helps determine how much a particular element belongs to a specific group or category. Instead of saying something is either true or false, a membership function assigns a value between 0 and 1, indicating the degree of membership. For example, consider the term "tall." Someone who is 6 feet might have a membership value of 0.8 in the group of "tall people," while someone who is 5 feet 5 inches might have a value of 0.4. This allows for more nuanced classifications and better handling of uncertainty.
