Melanoma in Situ

Melanoma in situ is the earliest stage of melanoma, a type of skin cancer. It means the cancerous cells are confined to the outermost layer of the skin (the epidermis) and haven't spread deeper. It appears as a pigmented or unusual-looking mole or spot. Because it’s caught early, it’s highly treatable—usually with surgical removal. If left untreated, it can progress to invasive melanoma, which can spread to other parts of the body. Early detection and treatment are key to a positive outcome. Regular skin checks help identify such changes promptly.
