Mediterranean fever criteria
Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is diagnosed based on specific clinical criteria that consider the pattern of symptoms. The main features include recurrent episodes of fever lasting 1-3 days, often accompanied by pain in the abdomen, chest, or joints. To meet the criteria, a person typically must experience multiple episodes with these symptoms, without other explanations. Additional signs may include a characteristic rash called erysipelas-like lesions. These criteria help doctors distinguish FMF from other conditions with similar symptoms and are used alongside blood tests and family history to confirm the diagnosis.
