Medieval siege tactics
Medieval siege tactics involved blockading a fortified location to cut off supplies and reinforcements. Attackers often built siege engines, like trebuchets and battering rams, to break down walls. They might dig tunnels to undermine defenses or construct siege towers to scale walls. Surrounding forces would aim to starve the defenders into surrender. Defenders used various methods to repel attackers, including archers, boiling substances, or counter-sapping. Psychological warfare, such as displaying severed heads, also played a role in undermining morale. Ultimately, the goal was to breach defenses and capture the fortification without extensive loss of life.
