Medial rectus muscle
The medial rectus muscle is one of the six muscles that control eye movement. Located on the inside of each eye, it primarily helps move the eye inward toward the nose, a movement called "adduction." This muscle works with the other eye muscles to ensure both eyes focus on the same object, which is essential for clear, single binocular vision. It is controlled by a nerve called the third cranial nerve (oculomotor nerve). Proper function of the medial rectus is vital for coordinated eye movements, allowing us to track moving objects and maintain proper depth perception.
