MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament)
The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is a strong band of tissue inside your knee that connects the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia). It helps stabilize the knee by preventing it from buckling inward, especially during movement or sports activities. The MCL is often injured through a blow to the outer side of the knee or a sudden twist, leading to pain, swelling, and difficulty moving the joint. Most MCL injuries heal with rest, physical therapy, and sometimes bracing; more severe tears may require surgical repair. It plays a crucial role in maintaining knee stability during daily activities and sports.
