MCI Communications
MCI Communications was a major American telecommunications company founded in 1963 that provided long-distance phone services. It grew by competing with the established phone companies and introduced innovative technologies to improve communication networks. In the 1980s, MCI expanded rapidly, becoming one of the largest long-distance providers in the U.S. Its success challenged the dominant AT&T monopoly, leading to increased competition and regulation in the telecommunications industry. In 1998, MCI was acquired by British Telecom and later became part of Verizon Communications, continuing to serve as a significant provider of telecom services.
