Maya epigraphy

Maya epigraphy is the study of the ancient writing system used by the Maya civilization, which thrived in Mesoamerica from about 2000 BCE to the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. This writing system, known as hieroglyphics, consists of glyphs that represent sounds, words, and concepts. Epigraphers, or scholars specializing in this field, analyze inscriptions found on monuments, ceramics, and codices to uncover historical information about Maya society, including their politics, rituals, and daily life. Through this research, we gain insights into the rich cultural heritage and intellectual achievements of the Maya people.
