Maxam
Maxam, short for Maxam Chemical Corporation, was an early method developed in the 1950s for determining the sequence of bases in DNA. It involves chemically breaking DNA into smaller pieces at specific bases, then separating and analyzing these fragments to determine the order of nucleotides. This technique helped scientists understand genetic sequences before the advent of faster methods like sequencing by synthesis. While Maxam sequencing is now less common, it was pivotal in advancing molecular biology and understanding genetic information.
