Mature teratoma
A mature teratoma is a type of tumor that develops from germ cells, which are capable of forming different tissues like hair, skin, or fat. It is called "mature" because the tissues inside are fully developed and benign (non-cancerous). These tumors can occur in areas like the ovaries or testes, and sometimes in the chest or abdomen. Often, they are discovered incidentally or due to symptoms like pain or a lump. Treatment typically involves surgical removal, and the prognosis is usually excellent once removed.
