Matthias Erzberger

Matthias Erzberger was a German politician and diplomat in the early 20th century, known for his efforts to promote peace. He played a key role in negotiating the armistice that ended World War I in 1918, advocating for diplomatic solutions over continued conflict. Erzberger also worked to reform Germany's government and was a leading figure in the centrist Catholic party. His efforts aimed to stabilize post-war Germany and foster reconciliation, but he faced opposition and was ultimately assassinated in 1921 by extremists opposed to his peace initiatives.
