Martin de Redin

Martin de Redin was a 17th-century Maltese military and administrative leader, serving as Grand Master of the Knights of Malta from 1658 to 1660. He is best known for strengthening Malta’s defenses against pirates and invading forces by constructing a series of coastal watchtowers along the island. These towers allowed early warning of approaching threats, enhancing Malta’s security. De Redin’s efforts contributed significantly to the island’s military preparedness during a turbulent period in Mediterranean history, and his name remains associated with these strategic fortifications.
