Marsh Classification

Marsh Classification is a system used by medical professionals to describe the severity of intestinal damage in celiac disease. It categorizes tissue changes from mild to severe, based on how much the lining of the small intestine has been damaged, such as the loss of villi—the tiny finger-like structures that help absorb nutrients. The classification ranges from Marsh 0 (normal tissue) to Marsh 3 (severe damage with loss of villi). This helps doctors diagnose, assess severity, and monitor the progress of the disease or response to treatment.
