Maratha administration

The Maratha administration was a decentralized yet coordinated system, primarily led by local leaders called 'Sarkars' or governors. It relied on a hierarchy where regional chiefs managed their territories, collected revenue, and maintained law and order, reporting to the central authority of the Chhatrapati (king). The administration emphasized efficient revenue collection through villages and towns, supported by a military organization called the Maratha army. This system promoted regional autonomy while ensuring loyalty to the central leadership, enabling the Maratha Empire to govern a large and diverse territory effectively during its peak.
