Mar Addai
Mar Addai, also known as Saints Thaddeus or Addai, is regarded as one of the earliest Christian missionaries and apostles in Persia (modern-day Iran). Traditionally, he is credited with spreading Christianity in the region during the 1st century, establishing Christian communities, and translating religious texts. His role is particularly significant for the Assyrian and Chaldean Christian communities, who revere him as a foundational figure. Mar Addai’s legacy highlights the early spread of Christianity beyond the Roman Empire into Persia, demonstrating the faith's reach and cultural impact in the ancient Near East.
