Manuel Noriega
Manuel Noriega was a Panamanian military leader and intelligence officer who gained power in the 1980s. Initially an ally of the United States, he later fell out of favor due to his involvement in drug trafficking and human rights abuses. In 1989, the U.S. invaded Panama, leading to Noriega’s capture. He was tried and convicted in the United States on drug charges. After serving time, he was extradited to France and later to Panama, where he faced additional charges. Noriega's controversial legacy reflects both his role in U.S.-Latin American relations and his criminal activities.
