Manitoba Act

The Manitoba Act, passed in 1870, was a key law that created the province of Manitoba, setting out its boundaries, government, and rights. It was part of Canada's effort to establish and govern new territories as it expanded westward, particularly to accommodate the Métis people living there. The Act recognized Métis land rights and provided for the establishment of local government, helping to peacefully incorporate Manitoba into Canada.
