Mandate Territories
Mandate Territories were regions previously controlled by defeated colonial powers, such as the Ottoman Empire or Germany, which were placed under the administration of other countries by the League of Nations after World War I. These territories were not outright colonies but were managed with the promise of eventual independence or self-governance. The system aimed to prepare these areas for independence while preventing exploitation. Examples include territories in the Middle East and Africa. The mandate system reflected international efforts to oversee decolonization and promote stability, although its effectiveness and fairness have been subject to critique.
