Theories of malpractice typically include negligence, which involves failing to meet a standard of care, leading to harm; breach of duty, meaning the professional did not act as expected; and causation, showing that the harm was directly linked to the professional's actions. Essentially, if a professional does not perform their job with the required skill and care, resulting in damage or injury to a client or patient, they may be held liable for malpractice.
