Major General A. K. Niazi was a senior Pakistani military officer who served as the commander of Pakistan’s Eastern Command during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. He is most known for his role in the Bangladesh Liberation War, where he led the Pakistani forces in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Facing defeat, he oversaw the surrender of over 90,000 Pakistani troops to Indian and Bangladeshi forces, which was one of the largest surrenders in modern history.
