Magellan (Ferdinand Magellan)
Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer best known for leading the first expedition to circumnavigate the globe, which took place from 1519 to 1522. Although he did not complete the journey himself, as he was killed in the Philippines in 1521, his voyage proved that the Earth is round and provided valuable insights into global geography and trade routes. Magellan’s fleet faced numerous challenges, including harsh weather and conflicts with indigenous peoples, but ultimately changing the course of exploration and enhancing European knowledge of the world. His legacy is significant in maritime history.
