Lunar Magnetism

Lunar magnetism refers to the magnetic fields associated with the Moon. Unlike Earth, which has a strong global magnetic field generated by its molten core, the Moon's magnetism is localized and weaker. Many lunar rocks and crust areas show remnants of ancient magnetism, indicating the Moon once had a magnetic field or was influenced by localized magnetic sources. Studying lunar magnetism helps scientists understand the Moon’s geological history, including its cooling, core development, and past magnetic activity, shedding light on planetary magnetic processes and the Moon's evolution over billions of years.
