Louisbourg
Louisbourg was a 18th-century French fortress and port on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, established in 1713. It served as a key military and trading hub in North America, controlling access to the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic. Known for its impressive defenses and well-planned layout, Louisbourg was a strategic site during colonial conflicts between France and Britain. It changed hands several times, notably during the Wars of the Austrian and French and Indian Wars. Today, it is a National Historic Site of Canada, with extensive reconstruction and interpretive programs that highlight its colonial history and significance.
