Louis IV (Louis the Bavarian)
Louis IV, also known as Louis the Bavarian, was Holy Roman Emperor from 1314 to 1347. Born in 1282, he was a member of the Wittelsbach dynasty and ruled over Bavaria. His reign was marked by disputes with rival claimants to the throne and conflicts with the Pope, notably over issues of authority and governance. Louis sought to strengthen central power in the empire and promoted trade and administration. His legacy includes efforts to centralize government, as well as contributions to the development of German legal and cultural institutions during the early 14th century.
