Los Cuban Missile Crisis (CFS)
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day confrontation in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. It began when the U.S. discovered Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from Florida. This escalation heightened fears of nuclear war. President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev engaged in intense negotiations, ultimately resulting in the Soviets withdrawing their missiles in exchange for U.S. promises not to invade Cuba and secretly removing U.S. missiles from Turkey. The crisis is often viewed as a pivotal moment in U.S.-Soviet relations and nuclear diplomacy.
