Loran

Loran, short for Long Range Navigation, is a radio-based navigation system used primarily for maritime and aerial navigation. It works by transmitting signals from fixed land-based stations. A receiver calculates its position by measuring the time it takes for signals to travel from multiple stations. This method allows navigators to determine their location accurately, even in areas where GPS might be unreliable. Once widely used, Loran has largely been replaced by GPS technology, but it remains a valuable backup for navigation in certain situations, especially during emergencies or in remote locations.
