London Docklands Development Corporation
The London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC) was established in 1981 to regenerate the derelict areas of the Docklands in East London. Once a bustling port, the area had fallen into decline. The LDDC aimed to improve infrastructure, attract investment, and create jobs. It oversaw significant development projects, including housing, office spaces, and transport links like the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). By the time it was dissolved in 1998, the LDDC had transformed the Docklands into a vibrant urban area, contributing to London's economy and becoming a model for urban regeneration worldwide.
