Localized Climate Zones

Localized Climate Zones (LCZs) are categories used to describe the microclimate characteristics of different urban and nearby areas. They consider land cover, building types, and surface materials, which influence temperature, airflow, and humidity locally. For example, densely built neighborhoods with tall buildings and concrete surfaces tend to be hotter and less breezy than parks or open green spaces. By identifying LCZs, urban planners and climate scientists can better understand and address specific climate conditions in various parts of a city, helping to improve urban design and mitigate effects like the urban heat island phenomenon.
