liver fluke
Liver fluke is a small parasitic flatworm that infects the liver of animals and humans. It often enters the body through ingestion of contaminated water plants or raw, contaminated meat from infected animals. Once inside, the flukes settle in the liver’s bile ducts, causing inflammation, swelling, and sometimes damage to the liver. This can lead to symptoms like abdominal pain, fatigue, and jaundice. Liver fluke infections are common in regions where people consume untreated freshwater plants or raw fish, and can be treated with antiparasitic medications to eliminate the worms.
