
Liu Xiaobo
Liu Xiaobo was a Chinese human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, recognized for his advocacy of political reform and freedom of expression in China. He played a significant role in the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and later co-authored Charter 08, a manifesto calling for constitutional reforms and basic human rights. Liu was imprisoned multiple times for his activism, spending years in jail before dying of cancer in 2017 while still detained. His work highlighted the struggles for democracy and human rights in China, making him a symbol of peaceful resistance against authoritarianism.
