Litigation is the legal process where disputes are resolved in court. It involves parties, known as plaintiffs and defendants, who bring their cases before a judge or jury. The plaintiff claims that the defendant has caused harm, and seeks a remedy, usually in the form of financial compensation. The process includes several stages: filing complaints, gathering evidence through discovery, and presenting arguments during a trial. If the case isn’t settled beforehand, a judge or jury will make a decision, known as a verdict. Ultimately, litigation is a formal way to settle disagreements using the legal system.
